Fun Contest with giveaways...Yippeee!

Hey everyone, as Christmas rolls around, we've decided it was time to do a little giving. We've got 3 copies of the book "Offbeat Bride" to give away. This book, written by Ariel Meadow Stallings, is filled with ideas on how to make your wedding your own and totally unique. Lots of fun little ideas, etc.
So how to take part in this contest? Real easy, just add to the comments on how you plan to make Your own wedding unique, a paragraph or two is just fine, and the 3 couples with the most unique ideas as judged by us, will be sent a copy of the book via mail. Deadline is December 15th. This contest is all in the name of good fun and it's free!
Oh yeah and you don't need to be one of our customers, you just need to have a great idea to share with the world. Heck you don't even need to be getting married yet. If you're fantasizing about your wedding and have some ideas you're willing to share, you stand a chance to win too. And if you live outside Singapore, you can take part too, but you do need to send a self addressed stamped envelope for whatever it cost to get the book to you.

I'll start! My current fantasy is to be a fabulous thrift-shop bride. If luck smiles on me, I'll like to get my wedding gown, suit, and all the accessories at the Salvation Army store :) All I need is the potential in the outfit...and a tailor can do the rest (hopefully).
Don't know what I like more- the idea of saving money, or the horrified looks I've been getting.
Hopefully I will get married again one day.
My first marriage was very unique.. I got married in the belltower in Ashville NC overlooking the park. It was a bit impromptu as we were suposed to get married in the park but since it was Halloween (yes halloween) there was a Pagen festiable on one side of the park and some sort of hippy reunion going on in the other. My ex's father was a city official and he just happened to have the key to go up in the belltower so we snuck up there and had the wedding. It was an amazing view the only real downside is it had not been cleaned in years so there was alot of bird poop and my pastor was TERRIFIED of heights so Im not sure what at all he said (maybe thats why the marriage failed?). It was actually alot of fun and my "flower girl" was dressed in her halloween costume as she left promptly after dinner for trick or treating (who else gets to have snow white as their flower girl?) We also ended up with an entire park full of people watching us and cheering us on through the entire cerimony. Im not honestly sure how I will ever top that one or if I should even try :)
I've already got the book, but I want to share anyways.
Our wedding date is Halloween 2009. My boyfriend and I love Fall and Halloween is our favorite time of year. The dress for our guests is Costume Optional. We have a lot of friends that love to dress up for Halloween, so this will be perfect for them. My dress will be dark red and black. I make custom corsets so I will be making it myself. The corset will be made out this red and black skull brocade that I found. The groom will be wearing a formal scottish outfit except for black and red flame boots and a mohawk. I will also be wearing black and red flame boots, because I want to be comfortable. The bridesmaids will be wearing black dresses of their choice so they can wear them over and over. The groomsmen will be wearing Utilikilts. My mom will be giving me away since she's the only one that's always been around. The cememony will be super short with no religious themes - 10 minutes tops. My flowers will be dried organic Black Baccara Roses and Black Wheat from my garden.
Most of our wedding will be DIY. It's going to be held in a 100 year old Craftsman Style Community Center in a small town. Instead of cake we will have a Decorate-your- own-cupcake bar. We are making our centerpieces with sugar pie pumpkins which we will later can so we can eat them later. MMMM pumpkin pie.
I'm going to be rocking a green wedding dress and Mister Groom will be sporting a fabulous orange shirt. We're getting married in the gorgeous Snake River Canyon in So. Idaho with tons of friends and family. We'll be exiting the ceremony by kayak instead of limo. We're trying to think of a way to have bluegrass music in the ceremony-- our reception site won't let us have loud music.
We're having our reception at The Herrett Center for Arts and Science, a museum packed with art, anthropology, space and reptile exhibits. We're treating everyone to a planetarium show instead of a typical dance party.
Instead of registering for gifts, we're asking guests make donations to UMCOR and the local homeless shelter. We're ridiculously excited-- both of us are involvd with the planning and it won't be a typical froofy wedding.
We've asked our family and friends to add their talents to ours to make the wedding day special. I've designed and printed all of our invites, and am also doing CD covers and labels and programs. My mother is contributing her talents by helping to sew table overlays and fun flower napkin rings I'm designing. My father is going to build a wedding arch for us. The most special contribution is that my fiance is going to sing me down the aisle, accompanied on guitar by his best man :) It's becoming a really special day for us and the initmate group of people we're inviting, because everybody feels like they're part of the day :)
I don't need the book, cause I already have it, but I wanted to share too. My partner and I are renting the Environmental Learning Center at Moran State Park for 4 nights. My dress is going to be made by us out of a hemp/silk blend, hand-dyed by a woman in Portland that I found on Etsy (thanks for the Etsy tip Ariel). He will be wearing whatever he wants to. A friend is designing invites, another friend is making cupcakes, and our reception will be on picnic blankets by the lake, and will be organic and local. He's going to make the beer.
We're both environmentalists, and it was important for us to minimize the stuff that just does not matter to us.
I am a Restoration Ecologist, and we will also be doing an invasive removal day before we head out to the island, getting rid of Himalayan blackberry from a park that I work at. We will have someone playing nature-based games for the kids there. We like the idea of using our power as the couple getting married to benefit the environment.
Hey everyone, thank you so much for sharing. It's really fascinating.
Gosh, what a variety of weddings. Halloween weddings, conservation wedding, weddings at the top of bell towers, etc, it's so great to hear everyone making their special day their own.
Keep the stories coming everyone.
Hey Kuang,this is interesting.
even though i am married already, and i don't need the book, but if I were to renew my vows, I'd opt for a small and intimate ceremony at Anfield, the home of Liverpool Football Club (of cwhich I've been a fan since 1986). I'll be wearing the kit jersey while my wife can wear anything she likes. My daughter will be the "ballgirl" and it will be attended by family and close friends+ my football buddies. After the ceremony, we can have a 7-a-side game amongst ourselves, or better still, the Liverpool youth/reserves/first team, whoever the club is willing to spare. Meanwhile, my wife will be cheering her hearts out and hand me (who else?) the Man-of-the-Match award.
not an entry, as I am happily married. I have a 19 year old dd who hopefully will be married in a couple of years.
just stopping by to say I blogged ya:

We are trying to make the wedding as "us" as possible, which means a retro 50s feel generally. I'm wearing a tea-length red dress with a crinoline. He's wearing a vintage brown suit. No white dresses, no tuxes, etc. Only one or possibly two attendant(s). A female) friend is going to perform the ceremony. Afterwards we're having barbeque, board games, and a barn dance. Cupcakes instead of cake. Like tomandrachel, we're trying to do as much ourselves as possible; we're doing our own flowers, decoration, and invitations. No religion, no WIC, and no sexism. Just fun fun fun!
Well, mine isn't as interesting as all of the others I've read but I don't think it's traditional either. We are just getting together about 40 close family and friends and having a 10 minute ceremony then a bbq in my parents backyard. We've been together a long time so I guess we just don't feel the need for the whole "let's play king and queen for the day" thing. It's more important to us just to have people we care about around to hang out and celebrate. Everything will be cheap and relatively environmentally friendly with soy candles for lighting and small potted plants as favors.
Our wedding will reflect our laid back style and our support for small local businesses. We are planning a small ceremony with immediate in a gazebo at a local arboretum (with a bouquet of locally grown flowers from the farmer's market). I haven't found the dream dress yet, but plan for something informal to complement the natural setting.
The reception will be a barbeque in my family's backyard followed by heading to the beergarten of our favorite local micro-brewery where we hope to book our favorite local bluegrass band. My sister is a pastry chef and my fiance doesn't like cake, so I am hoping my sister will consent to make minicheese cakes that can also serve as centerpieces. As my fiance and I are both interested in brewing, my dream (not venturing to speak for him) would be to prepare a special wedding brew as favors for our guests which we would distribute at the BBQ.
Wish I got to shoot your weddings. They all sound really fun and intimate.
Two words:
Flmaningo. Croquet.
Now you can put them together.
BTW, the email thecrypt4@hotmail.com
Actually this would be for my daughters wedding. My best idea to date is a picnic shelter in a local park, BBQ and beer. Think she would go for this? Hey I paid for college. ;)
